Lighting For Life
New Mills rose like a phoenix from the ashes from one of the many old and dilapidated cloth mills that line the five valleys area in the South Cotswolds.
Much like salvaged lighting (where our story all began) we have lovingly restored the Mill over the years to incorporate our warehouse, showroom and offices.
This began a new era of Libby’s Drive which now houses a number of entrepreneurial organisations such as a co-working hub, an ethical accountants, an antiques dealer and an artisan glass designer. We didn’t have to find these companies, they came here, drawn by the sense of community which is the real essence of Stroud and why it ultimately won the accolade of the UKs Number 1 Place to Live.
Back at the start, it was important (in fact we’d go as far as go say, it’s ingrained in us) to use something that already existed, something that had history and character and a place we felt at home. It’s the ethos that overarches Trainspotters – why reinvent the wheel for commerce sakes when you can build on what already exists? Why make more of the ‘nothing specials’ when you can re-use and re-new to make something exceptional?
Trainspotters sources vintage classics and unique industrial finds to provide customers with a little piece of history and where we can’t find originals any more, we take time to invest in research and development to lovingly recreate quality classics, built to last a lifetime… this is the Trainspotters legacy.
This to us is the real essence of sustainable – doing something once and doing it well so that our customers can enjoy their lighting forever. The fact we can do it all here, in Stroud, surrounded by a supportive and innovative community, is a match made in Heaven.
The Backstory Over the years we’ve handled some incredible vintage glass lighting. From decorative Holophane pendants salvaged from Victorian churches to industrial explosion-proof beasts rescued from factories in Eastern Europe. Along the way we’ve developed a particular penchant for hand-blown glass. And so over recent years we’ve been building a range of hand blown lights, …
