Antique V&A Cabinet 'WX'

Sorry, this product has been sold out.

Made in 1909 this cabinet is one of a small batch from the Chinese Galleries of the V&A, removed during refurbishment work 12 years ago.

In our early years, before we specialised in lighting, we handled a lot of museum cabinets mostly hailing from major London museums. We set this one aside as one of the finest examples of an antique display cabinet he have seen.

A sea of cabinets was being removed and replaced with more suitable temperature controlled and secure cabinetry.

Many cabinets were mahogany island vitrines, beautifully made but hard to re-use.

In addition there were large runs of built-in bronze framed units of exceptional quality, but fascia-only so not usable as free standing units.

We were able to acquire the very small number of free standing one and two door bronze framed units, of which this is one.

A high grade mahogany base plinth with a fully bronze bound vitrine including bronze cornice and hinges. The mahogany plinth has a flip down door on each side. Internally is a re-polished adjustable steel shelving system, allowing for 2 glass shelves per bay. The shelves are later toughened glass. All locks were removed by the museum.

They don't come any better than this.
