Springtime is fittingly a time of new beginnings here at Trainspotters. After a winter of uncertainty and uneasy wranglings we have finally managed to secure ownership of the historical mill building that neighbours our existing showroom. Dating in parts from the 1500’s New Mills is a shadow of its former prosperous self, having ceased activities as a woollen mill back in 1898, since when it has been allowed to slowly dilapidate. We inherit a fascinating fusion of a building, incorporating everything from early stone blockwork to bodged 1970’s concrete add-ons, none of it maintained and most of it leaking. Like kids in a sweetshop we are excitedly underway with scraping away the layers of neglect and are slowly revealing the gem beneath.
