Living Room Ceiling Light Ideas
There are so many considerations when choosing lighting for a living room depending on how you live and how you like to use your living room or lounge. Considerations range from the need for task lighting for activities like reading or crafting to whether you need to highlight special objects, artwork or specific areas. Once you’ve made these practical decisions, next up comes the all-important style and these popular collections will hopefully help you on your way.
Decorative
A side-step from the industrial lighting synonymous with Trainspotters, is the newer range of more compact decorative ceiling lighting such as the Deco, the Beehive, the American and the Jellymould. These lights have a number of finishes be it opaline, smoked, antiqued, frosted or clear, we’re confident you will find something to suit your desired aesthetic.
The Deco, the Beehive and the American are all available as living room ceiling lights (pendants) as well as wall lights, facilitating a coherent look across your living room interior. The Jellymould is a unique stand alone wall light but in the same complimentary finishes should you wish to mix and match. The Jellymould has in fact, a very interesting history originally deriving from inside another vintage lamp – you can read more about its journey to popularity on our blog here.
Vintage
The most sustainable ceiling light choice you will ever make – already once around the block, the history, the story and the quality of workmanship of vintage lighting is evident is every piece. Why not re-home a vintage light in your living room and marvel at the uniqueness, depth and quality it adds.

Contemporary
Although the original designs came from mid 20th century Eastern Europe, the glass and ceramic range of lights are an excellent contemporary option for living room ceiling lighting – their minimal, paired-down designs have stood the test of time.
With a host of shapes to choose from, there’s something for everyone and very reasonably priced, these can be hung in larger series to add atmosphere and drama to a space, especially when dimmable. The flush mount variation means you can ceiling-mount these which makes them a perfect light for low ceilinged living rooms.
When we talk about classic lighting, we’re talking about timeless design, the lights we see used over and over regardless of which decade we’re in. For interiors ranging from traditional through to contemporary, classic lights are more often than not very simple shapes and finishes.
Take for example the classic factory light in either the ceiling light or wall light options or the Dunlop pendant – the classic of all domed pendants; both bring a classic look to living rooms and one that is sure to last generations.

Industrial
Whilst not everyone’s cup of tea, if you have the luxury of open plan spaces and high ceilings, industrial lighting can be an excellent option to add drama and proportion to a room.
Exposed brick, polished concrete and timber are the ideal material mixes for industrial lighting. Industrial lights are usually fabricated from metal like steel or aluminium with durable coatings like enamel.
Take the Giant Czech Pendant for example – a great example of a supersize industrial ceiling light. For a slightly more delicate option but still with an industrial feel the Concorde Pendant is another excellent choice.
